Child Travel POA & Consent Letter in Dubai, UAE

Looking for a child travel consent form UAE PDF? The full wording is below. Copy it or download it as a PDF or Word file, fill in the child's and the travelling adult's details, and sign it before a notary. The notarised letter is what airline staff and immigration officers look for when a child travels without both parents.

PrivateNotaryDubai.com has in-house, in person notary public services, online notary public services and home visit private notary services. We draft the letter, check it against the passports and get it signed where the parent is.

Consent for a minor to travel

In short

  • Price: from AED 1,200, plus the government fee on top at cost.
  • Who signs: the parent or parents who are not travelling with the child.
  • What to bring: the child's passport page, the travelling adult's passport page, and the signing parent's original Emirates ID or passport.
  • Where to sign: at our in-house notary public, at your home, hospital or office, or online.
  • Going abroad: the UAE is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so a letter used in another country follows the attestation route, not an apostille.

Three ways to get it notarised

In person with our in-house notary public

Bring the original ID to the office. The notary public checks each signer's original ID, reads the letter, watches you sign and applies the seal.

Home or hospital visit

We come to your home, hospital or office, which suits a new mother, a parent on shift or a grandparent who does not drive.

Online

Remote notarisation is possible through the official UAE channels, the Ministry of Justice e-notary or Dubai Courts remote. Whether a travel consent letter can go this way depends on the channel, so ask us first. See the e-notary guide.

Step by step

How to get it signed

Tell us about the trip

Send the child's passport page, the travel dates, the destination, who travels with the child, and which parent signs and where.

We draft it

We fill the template, or draft a POA if the trip needs one, and send it to you to check. Wrong spelling of names is the most common reason a letter is redone.

Sign before the notary

The parent shows the original Emirates ID or passport. The notary public reads out the letter, confirms the parent agrees, watches the signature and applies the seal. See mobile private notary services for how a home visit runs.

Attestation, if the letter is used abroad

If the destination country asks for more than a notarised letter, the next step is usually MOFAIC attestation in the UAE and then that country's embassy. We tell you before the signing whether this applies.

Keep copies

Carry the original with the child's passport. Keep a photo on the travelling adult's phone and on the parent's phone.

Common situations

Child travelling with one parent

The parent staying behind signs. This is the most common request we get. The wording for a consent letter from father to travel with mother, and the reverse, is on the child travel consent with one parent page.

Relatives, schools, unaccompanied minors and separated parents

A child travelling with relatives or family friends usually needs both parents' consent, at one appointment or two. A school or club normally sends its own form, so use theirs. The airline's unaccompanied minor form is a separate document. If one parent has sole custody under a court order, bring the order so the letter can refer to it.

UAE to India

Indian families often need extra details. See the child travel consent form UAE to India.

Mistakes to avoid

Mistakes that get a letter refused

  • Writing the child's name as used at home, not as in the passport.
  • Leaving the return date blank, or writing "summer holidays".
  • Signing before the appointment. The letter then has to be printed and signed again.
  • Using a letter from a previous trip. The dates will not match.
  • Forgetting that a trip abroad may also need attestation, not just notarisation.
  • Getting the travelling parent to sign. Consent must come from the parent who is not travelling.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do both parents need to sign the consent letter?

The parent who is not travelling must sign. If the child travels with neither parent, both usually sign. A parent with sole custody under a court order may sign alone, with the order attached.

Is notarization mandatory?

In practice, yes. Airlines and immigration officers generally expect a notarized child travel consent form, because an unsealed signature cannot be checked. We recommend notarising every letter.

Where can I get a child travel consent form notarized?

With us: in person with our in-house notary public, at your home or hospital bedside, or online where the channel accepts it. You can also use the Dubai Courts notary public. We bring the prepared letter to the signing.

How long is the consent letter valid?

It covers the trip and the dates written in it, so for a new trip, sign a new letter. Some airlines or border officers may look at how recently the letter was signed.

Can I notarize a child travel consent form online?

Remote notarisation exists in UAE law: a notary may use IT tools instead of personal appearance (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 18). Whether it is offered for a travel consent letter depends on the channel. See the e-notary guide.
