The "Smart Remote E-Notary Service" Dubai Branch: Is There One to Visit?

The Dubai Courts e-notary is not a branch you walk into. "E-notary" describes the remote process. UAE law lets a notary use IT tools in place of personal appearance, and the Ministry of Justice runs an E-Notary System.

We have in-house, in person notary public services, online notary public services and home visit private notary services. Choose the one that suits your document.

In short

  • The law: a notary may use IT tools without the parties appearing in person (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 18).
  • Same value: an e-notarised document has the same evidential value as one notarised in person (Article 23).
  • What to have: an Emirates ID or passport, a good connection and a quiet room.
  • Next step WhatsApp us at +971 52 947 5935 with the document.

Three ways to get it notarised

In person with our in-house notary public

Come to the notary office. The notary public checks each signer's original ID, reads the document, watches you sign and applies the seal. Suits documents where the notary must see the original papers.

Home or hospital visit

We come to your home, hospital or office. Suits elderly or unwell signers, and two people who sign together. Quote on request, plus the Dubai private notary trip fee.

Online notary UAE: remote notarisation

We set up your online notarisation through the official UAE channels, the Ministry of Justice E-Notary System or Dubai Courts remote attendance. The notary checks your ID on camera, you sign and you receive the sealed document.

Online notary UAE: how online notarization works

The default rule is that the parties appear before the notary in person (Article 17). A notary may use IT tools for all transactions within their competence, without requiring the parties to appear (Article 18). Identity checks, registration and payment of fees count as met if done with IT tools under the applicable legislation (Article 19).

An electronic signature or document notarised under the law carries the same evidential value as an official signature or instrument (Article 23). Online notarization is not a lesser version. It is the real thing, over a secure connection.

The Ministry of Justice E-Notary System and Dubai Courts

The UAE Ministry of Justice runs the E-Notary System, with a sign-in page for submitting transactions and a search page to verify a notarised document. It has also offered digital power of attorney issuance since 2023. No private business is the E-Notary System.

Dubai Courts has described its power of attorney attestation service as checking capacity and eligibility through virtual or personal attendance (Dubai Courts service page, 2023). Before a session, ask which channel is used, what ID you show on camera and how you receive the sealed document.

Questions

Is there a branch to visit?

A place you can walk into is a notary's office, not an "e-notary branch". You can sign in person, or the notary can come to you.

A listing name does not tell you who seals your document. Before you pay anyone for online notarization, ask:

01

Who is the notary?

A private notary on the Dubai Courts roll, the Dubai Courts notary public, or a notary working through the Ministry system.

02

How do I verify the document afterwards?

A document notarised through the E-Notary System can be checked on its verification page.

03

What is the government fee, and what is the service fee?

They should be two separate lines.

What can be signed online, and what is easier in person

Remote signing works well for a straightforward document signed by one adult with an Emirates ID or passport, such as a power of attorney. It is harder when:

  • The signer is elderly or unwell, or needs help holding the ID to the camera.
  • Two people must sign together from different places.
  • The notary must see an original document.
  • The signer does not share the notary's language. An interpreter from the Ministry's register is then needed (Article 8).

Notarize passport online: what is possible

A passport itself is not notarised. People usually need a certified copy of the passport page for a bank or an authority abroad. The person certifying normally compares the copy with the original passport, so this is often done in person or at a home visit.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is online notarization legal in the UAE?

Yes. Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022 lets a notary use IT tools in place of personal appearance (Article 18) and gives an e-notarised document the same evidential value as a paper one (Article 23).

Can I do it online if I am outside the UAE?

Sometimes. It depends on the document and the notary's process. A UAE document signed abroad can also be signed before an accredited UAE consul in your country.

How do I check that an online notarised document is real?

For documents done through the E-Notary System, use the Ministry's verification search page. For others, ask the notary office that sealed it.

Is there an enotary office I can walk into?

There are notary offices you can walk into: the Dubai Courts notary public service centres and private notary offices. "E-notary" describes the remote process, not a separate kind of office.
