Hospital Notary Service in Dubai: Signing at the Bedside
Our hospital notary service Dubai families use is for a patient who has to sign a legal document but cannot leave the ward. We have in-house, in person notary public services, online notary public services and home visit private notary services, and that includes the hospital bedside.
We draft the document with the family, help you ask the ward, and our notary public comes to the bedside at a time the medical team accepts.
In short
- Ward first: the hospital decides whether a visitor may come to the bedside, and when.
- The patient must understand: the notary checks identity, capacity and free consent, and reads out the document before sealing it (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 7).
- What to bring: the patient's original Emirates ID or passport at the bedside. A photo on a phone is not enough.
- Next step: send the hospital name, the ward's answer, the patient's name and the document type on WhatsApp.
Three ways to get it notarised
In person with our in-house notary public
If the patient is discharged and can travel, sign at the notary's desk. If not, see notary at home in Dubai.
Hospital or home visit
The notary public comes to the ward. The checks are the same as at an office.
Online notary public
The federal law lets a notary use IT tools without personal attendance (Article 18). In a ward this depends on a stable connection, the patient's ability to follow a video call, and the hospital's rules on devices. A visit is often simpler. See the e-notary guide.
Questions
Three questions for the ward
01
May a notary visit this patient, and at what hours?
Some wards limit visitors or ask for a set time.
02
Is the patient's original ID in the hospital?
03
Is there a medical reason to wait?
If the doctor expects the patient to be clearer tomorrow, waiting a day can save a wasted visit.
Documents patients most often sign in hospital
A power of attorney for a family member
A spouse, adult child or sibling gets written authority for one task, such as a bank matter, a car sale or a visa application. See the special power of attorney form.
An affidavit
A sworn statement of facts for an employer, an insurer or an embassy.
A consent, NOC letter or declaration
For a child's travel, a visa renewal, or a statement of residence.
Wills and documents about medical treatment follow their own rules and are not covered by this page.
What the notary checks at the bedside
Under Article 7 of the federal notary law, the notary must be satisfied about three things.
Who the patient is
The ID is compared with the patient's face and with the name in the document. A wristband is not an ID.
That the patient can decide
The notary talks to the patient directly, not through the family, and may ask simple questions about what the document does.
That the choice is free
Relatives may be asked to step out while the notary speaks with the patient.
The notary then reads the text out and explains its effect. A patient who does not share the notary's language is helped by a registered interpreter, as Article 8 requires. Strong pain relief or sedation can mean the notary cannot go ahead, so choose a time when the patient is awake and clear. If the patient cannot hold a pen, tell us before booking. Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013 covers this case: a fingerprint can take the place of a signature (Article 30), and if illness or disability rules out both, the patient can name someone to sign or fingerprint for them (Article 31).
Step by step
How a hospital visit works
1
You tell us the hospital, the ward, the patient's name and what the document must do.
2
We draft the document and send you a copy for approval.
3
We confirm the ward's permission and the visiting slot in writing, with the agreed cost.
4
At the bedside, a family member meets the notary at reception. After sealing, the original goes to the person the patient names.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Is a bedside signing possible in intensive care?
That is the hospital's decision first, and then the notary's. Ask the ICU team before contacting us.
Can the family sign for the patient?
Usually not. Only the person named as the signer can sign. If illness or disability means the patient can neither sign nor fingerprint, the patient can name someone to sign or fingerprint for them (Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013, Article 31). If the patient cannot give consent at all, a notarised document is not the right route, and the family should ask a lawyer about the options.
Which hospitals do you visit?
We take requests for hospitals in all areas of Dubai, subject to the ward's permission. Send us the hospital name and we confirm.
What if the patient is discharged before the visit?
Then we move the visit to the home.
