Power of attorney
Power of Attorney for Car Registration: Renew Without Being There
A power of attorney for car registration lets a relative, friend or colleague handle your car's registration paperwork when you cannot. It is a narrow, limited power. It is not a sale.
We draft it, check it and have it signed before a notary public. We have in-house, in person notary public services, online notary public services and home visit private notary services.
In short
- Price from: AED 1,500, plus government fees at cost.
- Who signs: the owner named on the registration card.
- What to bring: passport or Emirates ID, the registration card, and the agent's ID details.
- Where: in person, at home or office, or online.
- Next step: send us the registration card on WhatsApp.
Three ways to get it notarised
In person with our in-house notary public
The notary public checks the owner's original ID, reads the document, watches you sign and applies the seal. We prepare the text and its Arabic version first.
Home or hospital visit
We come to your home, hospital or office. Price on request, plus the Dubai private notary government fee of AED 1,000 per trip outside the place of work.
Online
UAE law lets a notary use IT tools in place of personal appearance (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 18). See our e-notary guide.
When people use it
- You are travelling or living abroad and the registration is due.
- A family member drives the car and handles the paperwork.
- You are in hospital or cannot leave home.
- A company car needs a staff member to deal with the paperwork.
Keep the power narrow. A narrow document is easier for an office to accept, and it protects you. If you also want to sell the car, use the sale power of attorney instead.
What to write in a limited power of attorney for a car
- The car: make, model, year, plate number and chassis number from the registration card.
- The tasks: renew the registration, pay the fees, receive the new card.
- Fines: pay or settle fines recorded on the car, if you want that included.
- The end: a date, or the day the task is done.
Anything not written is not allowed. Leave out the sale and the transfer if you do not want them. The agent cannot do more than the document says. Under UAE civil law, broad wording covers management only (Federal Decree-Law No. 25 of 2025, Article 871).
Leased cars and company cars
Check the owner's name on the registration card. The person or company named there signs. If a company is named, it signs through its authorised signatory, and our company power of attorney page explains that route. If you lease a car, the leasing company may be the registered owner. Ask it what authority it accepts.
Ask the traffic authority what your agent must bring.
Mistakes to avoid
Mistakes that get it refused
- A wrong chassis or plate number. Copy both from the card.
- A name that differs from the card. Match it exactly.
- No end date. The law sets no fixed term. The document's own term applies (Article 897).
- Too broad. "All car matters" may be refused. List the tasks.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can someone renew my car registration for me?
Yes, with a power of attorney that names the renewal. Ask the office what it accepts before you sign, because we do not state its rules.
What is a limited power of attorney for a car?
It is a document that lists only the tasks you allow, for one named car. It does not give your agent authority to sell it unless you write that in.
Can I use it for a leased vehicle?
Only the registered owner can give the authority. Check the card and ask the leasing company if it is the owner.
Can I cancel it?
Yes. The principal can revoke the agency (Article 898). Tell your agent in writing and tell any office that holds a copy.
