Special Power of Attorney Form Dubai: Template to Adapt

This special power of attorney form Dubai template names an agent for one stated task: sell a car, renew a tenancy, collect a certificate or deal with one bank account. Copy the wording below into your own document. It takes effect once the principal signs before a notary.

In short

  • Price: from AED 1,500, plus government fees at cost.
  • Who signs: the principal, the person giving the authority. The agent signs only if the office using it asks.
  • What to bring: the principal's original ID, and ID copies for principal and agent.
  • Where: in person, at home, hospital or office, or online.
  • Term: no fixed expiry in the law. The term is what the document says (Article 897).

Three ways to get it notarised

In person with our in-house notary public

The notary public checks the principal's original ID, reads the power of attorney, watches the principal sign and applies the seal. We prepare the text and the Arabic version first.

Home or hospital visit

We come to the principal's home, hospital ward or office. The same checks apply. Price on request, plus the Dubai private notary government fee of AED 1,000 per trip outside the place of work.

Online

UAE law lets a notary use IT tools in place of personal appearance (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 18). See our e-notary guide for the official channels.

Why the power of attorney must be special

Any act beyond management needs a special agency that names the act, such as sale, donation, settlement, mortgage or pleading before a court (Federal Decree-Law No. 25 of 2025, Article 870). A POA in broad words covers management only, so a sale falls outside it (Article 871).

The wording

  1. The principal: name, nationality, passport and Emirates ID numbers, address.
  2. The agent: the same details.
  3. The task: exactly what the agent may do, and for which asset or matter.
  4. The term: a start date and an end date, or an event that ends it.
  5. Signatures: the principal's signature, and the notary's certificate and seal.

Keep the task narrow. "To manage all my affairs" reads as a general power and may be refused for a sale or a transfer.

SPECIAL POWER OF ATTORNEY

I, the undersigned, [principal's full name as in passport], [nationality], holder of passport number [number] and Emirates ID number [number], residing at [address], hereby appoint:

[Agent's full name as in passport], [nationality], holder of passport number [number] and Emirates ID number [number], residing at [address],

as my agent, to act on my behalf in the following matter only:

[Describe the task precisely. For example: to renew the tenancy contract for flat number (number), (building), (area), Dubai, with the landlord (name), to sign the renewed contract, to pay the rent from my funds, and to register the contract with the competent authority.]

For this purpose, my agent may sign all related documents, submit and receive papers, and pay fees on my behalf before [name the offices, for example the landlord, the property manager and the relevant government office].

Power of attorney Dubai template: tasks families use most

Renewing or ending a tenancy, collecting a certificate or passport, dealing with one bank account (banks often have their own form, so ask first), or following up a child's school or visa file. How signing works

Before a Dubai notary the sample is signed with an Arabic translation (Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013, Article 27). A legal translator prepares it for us, see translation and notary services.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one official special power of attorney form in Dubai?

No single form fits every task. Some authorities and banks publish their own. Where they do, use theirs.

Can I use this template if I live outside the UAE?

You can use the wording, but you sign before a notary in your country. The document then needs legalisation there and MOFAIC attestation in the UAE.

Can my agent pass the authority to someone else?

Only if the POA allows it. Leave that power out unless you want it.

How do I cancel a special POA?

The principal can revoke it (Article 898). Tell the agent in writing and any office that holds a copy.
