Termination of Contracts in Dubai
Termination of contracts Dubai parties agree on is written down in a termination agreement. Both sides sign it before a notary public, who checks their identity and consent and seals it. It suits a lease, a service contract, a supply deal or a partnership that is ending.
We have in-house, in person notary public services, online notary public services and home visit private notary services. We draft the agreement from your facts and take care of the Arabic text.
In short
- Price: on request, plus government fees at cost.
- Who signs: every party to the original contract, or a person holding a power of attorney for that party.
- What to bring: a copy of the original contract, the trade licence for a company party, and original IDs of each signer.
- Where: in person, at your office, or online.
- Next step: WhatsApp us the contract and the reason it is ending.
Three ways to get it notarised
In person with our in-house notary public
The notary public checks each signer's original ID, reads the termination agreement, watches every party sign and applies the seal.
Home or office visit
We bring the notary public to your office or home. Price on request, plus the Dubai private notary government fee of AED 1,000 per trip outside the place of work.
Online
UAE law lets a notary use IT tools in place of personal appearance (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 18). See our e-notary guide.
Two ways a contract can end
The right paper depends on whether the other side agrees.
- Both sides agree. You sign a termination agreement together.
- The other side does not agree. A termination agreement needs both signatures, so it will not work. A written notice may be the next step instead. Call or WhatsApp us, and we tell you how our notary public handles notices.
What a termination agreement should say
A good agreement is short and complete:
- The names and details of every party.
- The contract being ended: its title, date and reference number.
- The date the contract ends.
- What each side has already done and what is still owed, such as unpaid invoices, deposits or returned goods.
- A statement of whether either side has any further claim against the other.
- The signatures, with name and capacity under each.
Check the original contract for its own termination clause first. It may set a notice period or a form to follow. Your agreement should match it, or say clearly that both sides waive it.
Checklist
Documents to bring
A Dubai notary expects an Arabic text alongside an English document (Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013, Article 27). We translate it with a legal translator.
- A full copy of the original contract and any addendum.
- Original Emirates ID or passport of each signer.
- The trade licence of each company party.
- A power of attorney, where one person signs for another.
- Notes of what is owed on each side, if any.

Mistakes to avoid

- A party signs without the authority to end the contract for its company.
- Money owed is left unclear.
- One side signs but the other has not seen the final text.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Does a termination agreement have to be notarised?
It depends on who will rely on it. Notarising gives a record that each party's identity and consent were checked. Ask the office or the other party that needs the agreement, then tell us.
What if only one side wants to end the contract?
A termination agreement needs both parties. If the other side refuses, call or WhatsApp us to discuss a written notice.
Can I end a contract by changing it instead?
If the deal continues in a changed form, a contract addendum may fit better than a termination.
Do you decide who is right in a dispute?
No. A notary public does not judge a dispute. For a disagreement about money or breach, speak to a lawyer. Court representation is reserved to licensed lawyers (Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2022, Article 6).
