Acknowledgement of Cash Receipt in the UAE: Sample Wording and Notarisation

An acknowledgement of cash receipt in the UAE is a short signed statement. The person who received money writes who paid, how much, when and why. Copy the wording below, then have it notarised if you want a sealed record.

In short

The notary public checks each signer's original ID, reads the document, watches you sign and applies the seal. We check the wording before you come.

Home or office visit

We come to your home or office. Price on request, plus the Dubai private notary government fee of AED 1,000 per trip outside the place of work.

Online

UAE law lets a notary use IT tools in place of personal appearance (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 18). See our e-notary guide.

When people use it

  • Cash paid for a car, a flat or a business share. The seller signs that the cash arrived.
  • Rent or a deposit paid in cash. The landlord signs that the money was received.
  • A loan between family or friends. The receiver signs that the money was handed over.
  • A salary or a settlement paid in cash. The worker signs the amount received.

The receipt records who paid, who received, how much and when. It does not replace a contract. If the payment is part of a sale or a loan, keep the contract with it.

Acknowledgement of debt: sample to adapt

An acknowledgement of debt is the other side of the same paper. The person who owes money signs that they owe it.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF DEBT

Mistakes to avoid

Mistakes that cause trouble

  • No date. Write the day the cash changed hands.
  • Amount in figures only. Write it in words too, so no one can change a number.
  • A name that differs from the passport. Use it exactly.
  • A vague reason. "For the car" is weak. Add the plate number or chassis number.
  • Signing before the cash is counted. Sign only after you hold the money.

Frequently asked questions

Does an acknowledgement of cash receipt need a notary?

Not always. A notary adds an ID check and a seal, which some offices and banks prefer. Ask the office that will see it.

Can I notarise an acknowledgement of cash receipt online?

Yes, where the notary uses the official UAE remote channels. Tell us you want to sign online and we explain what the notary needs.

Can I get the wording in Word or PDF format?

Copy the wording into your own file. We also check and send back a clean version of the text you give us.

What is the difference between a receipt and an acknowledgement of debt?

A receipt says money was received. An acknowledgement of debt says money is owed. Use the one that matches what happened.

Does the payer need to sign as well?

It is not required, but a second signature can help. We add a line for it if you ask.
