Affidavit of Support Dubai: How to Get One, Step by Step, With a Sample

An affidavit of support is a sworn promise by a UAE resident to pay for a visitor's stay.

We have in-house, in person notary public services, online notary public services and home visit private notary services. We draft your affidavit and check it against the passports. The notary public checks your original ID, reads the affidavit, watches you sign and applies the seal.

Three ways to get your affidavit notarised

In person with our in-house notary public

You sign before the notary public. They check your original ID, read the affidavit, ask you to confirm it is true, watch you sign and apply the seal. Bring your originals and the visitor's passport copy.

Home, hospital or office visit

We come to you. The sponsor signs at home, in hospital or at work after the notary checks ID and reads the affidavit out. Visits are quoted on request. The Dubai private notary fee is AED 1,000 per trip outside the place of work. See our mobile private notary services.

Online notary public

Federal law lets a notary use IT tools instead of personal appearance (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 18). We can handle it through the official UAE channels, the Ministry of Justice E-Notary System or Dubai Courts remote attendance, where the receiving office allows it. Read the e-notary guide.

What is affidavit of support?

It is a promise, made under oath, to pay for someone else. The resident signing it (the affiant) swears to who they are, where they live, what they earn, who they sponsor and that they will meet that person's costs.

It is stronger than a letter because it is sworn. The notary records that the signer confirmed it knowingly and freely (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 7). For other sworn statements, see our declaration letter templates.

When you need it and who can sponsor

The request comes from the office handling the visa or the visitor's travel: a visit visa for a parent or relative, an embassy abroad, a university, or a consulate asking its own nationals in the UAE. Requirements differ and change, so work from the checklist you were given.

The sponsor is usually a UAE resident with a valid residence visa and a regular income. Offices may set a minimum salary or ask for a close relative. The sponsor must sign personally. A spouse or friend cannot sign for them unless a power of attorney covers it, and many offices do not accept that route.

Checklist

Documents to bring

What to have ready

  • The sponsor's original Emirates ID or passport, for the notary.
  • The sponsor's passport copy with the residence visa page.
  • The visitor's passport copy.
  • Proof of income: a salary certificate or recent bank statements.
  • Proof of address: a tenancy contract or Ejari. If nothing is in your name, a declaration of residency can help.
  • Proof of relationship where the office asks: a birth or marriage certificate.
  • The office's checklist or request letter.

Step by step

How to get affidavit of support in Dubai: the steps

Send your details

Send us your details and the visitor's passport copy. We draft the affidavit in English, Arabic or both.

Check the draft

Check every name, number and date against the passports. Tell us if the office uses set wording.

Sign before the notary

Sign in person, at home, at work or online.

Add attestation only if asked

An embassy abroad may want MOFAIC attestation, then its own. The UAE is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention. For use inside the UAE, notarisation is usually the last step.

Sample wording

Keep it to one page. Write the salary as on your salary certificate. If the office gave you its own wording, use that instead of ours.

Filipino sponsors and the Philippine consulate

Filipino residents are often asked for an affidavit of support by Philippine immigration or by a relative's visa office. That affidavit is normally executed at the Philippine mission itself (the consulate in Dubai or the embassy in Abu Dhabi), not before a UAE notary.

Before your consulate appointment we prepare the English wording, a checklist of your supporting documents, and a clear copy set of passports, visas and salary certificate, so the appointment is short.

Mistakes to avoid

Mistakes that get it refused

  • The visitor's name copied from a ticket Airline bookings often shorten names. Use the passport.
  • A salary that does not match the certificate The office will compare them.
  • A letter signed instead of an affidavit If the office asked for an affidavit, it must be sworn before the notary.
  • A second sponsor added "just in case" Each affiant swears to their own statement. Add one only if the office asked.
