Power of attorney

Vehicle Ownership Transfer Power of Attorney: Sell Your Car Through an Agent

A vehicle ownership transfer power of attorney lets another person sell your car and sign the transfer for you. It suits owners who are leaving the UAE, who are unwell, or who cannot be at the buyer's meeting.

We draft it, check the car details with you and have it signed before a notary public. We have in-house, in person notary public services, online notary public services and home visit private notary services.

In short

  • Price from: AED 1,500, plus government fees at cost.
  • Who signs: the registered owner. A co-owner signs too.
  • What to bring: your passport or Emirates ID, the registration card, and the agent's ID details.
  • Where: in person, at home or office, or online.
  • Next step: send us a photo of the registration card on WhatsApp.

Three ways to get it notarised

In person with our in-house notary public

The notary public checks the owner's original ID, reads the document, watches the owner sign and applies the seal. We prepare the text and its Arabic version first.

Home or hospital visit

We come to your home, hospital or office. Price on request, plus the Dubai private notary government fee of AED 1,000 per trip outside the place of work.

Online

UAE law lets a notary use IT tools in place of personal appearance (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 18). Read more in our e-notary guide.

Why a sale needs a special power

A sale is a serious act. UAE civil law says any act beyond management needs a special agency that names the type of act, and sale is listed (Federal Decree-Law No. 25 of 2025, Article 870). A power drafted in broad words covers management only (Article 871).

So write the sale into the document in plain terms. Do not rely on "all my affairs".

What the power of attorney should name

  1. The car: make, model, year, plate number and chassis number, copied from the registration card.
  2. The sale: find a buyer, agree the price, sign the sale papers and receive the money.
  3. The transfer: sign the ownership transfer papers on your behalf.
  4. The price rule: any price the agent accepts, or no less than an amount you set.
  5. The end: a date, or the day the car is sold.

If the car is under a bank loan, ask the bank what it needs before a sale. We cannot state the bank's rules.

Mistakes to avoid

Mistakes that get it refused

  • A wrong chassis number. One wrong character can mean a new document.
  • Owner's name not matching the card. Copy it exactly.
  • A narrow power that leaves out the transfer. Name the transfer as well as the sale.
  • No end date. The law sets no fixed term. The document's own term applies (Article 897).

Ask the traffic authority or the buyer what the agent must bring.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I give a power of attorney to sell my car?

Yes. Name the sale and the transfer in the document, and give the car's plate and chassis numbers. A clear document is less likely to be refused.

Can the power of attorney work as a car title transfer?

The document gives your agent authority to sign for you. The transfer itself is done at the authority that registers vehicles. Ask it what your agent must bring.

Can I set a minimum price?

Yes. Write "no less than" and the amount. Or leave the price to the agent.

Can I cancel it before the car is sold?

Yes. The principal can revoke the agency (Article 898). Tell your agent in writing and tell any office that holds a copy.
