Wills and family property

# Will Registration in Dubai: Notarising a Will for Non-Muslims

A will says who receives your property after your death. A Dubai notary public may attest a will made by a non-Muslim ([Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013](https://dlp.dubai.gov.ae/Legislation%20Reference/2013/Law%20No.%20(4%29%20of%202013%20Concerning%20Notaries%20Public%20in%20the%20Emirate%20of%20Dubai.html), Article 20). That is the step we offer, if you are looking at will registration in Dubai or a notary for a will.

We draft the will with you and check it. We have in-house, in person notary public services, online notary public services and home visit private notary services.

## In short

* **Price:** from AED 4,000. Government fees are paid on top at cost.
* **Who signs:** the person making the will (the testator).
* **What to bring:** original Emirates ID or passport, and a list of what you own and who you want to receive it.
* **Where:** in person, at home or in hospital, or online.
* **Next step:** send us your list and your family details on WhatsApp.

## Three ways to get it notarised

### In person with our in-house notary public

The notary public checks your original ID, reads the will, watches you sign and applies the seal. We prepare the text first so you can read it at home.

### Home or hospital visit

We come to your home, hospital or office. This suits an older person or someone who is ill. Price on request, plus the [Dubai private notary government fee](https://mediaoffice.ae/en/news/2025/december/29-12/dubai-courts-is-preparing-to-implement-the-decision-regulating-the-fees-of-the-private-notary-public) of AED 1,000 per trip outside the place of work.

### Online

UAE law lets a notary use IT tools in place of personal appearance ([Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022](https://uaelegislation.gov.ae/en/legislations/1563), Article 18). See our [e-notary guide](https://privatenotarydubai.com/e-notary-dubai/). Ask us first whether this route suits a will.

## Who this is for

The notary's power in Article 20 covers wills made by non-Muslims. A Dubai notary may not handle instruments about the family affairs of Muslims (Article 21). Those matters go to the court.

If you are unsure which side you fall on, ask us before you pay. We do not decide it for you, and we do not promise how any authority will treat your will.

## What a will usually covers

* **Who receives what.** Property, savings, a car, a business share.
* **Who looks after minor children,** if you have any.
* **Who carries out the will,** meaning the person you name to follow your wishes.
* **What happens if someone named dies first.** Name a second choice.

Wills are personal. We write down your decisions in plain, exact words. For advice on what you should decide, speak to a lawyer licensed in the UAE.

Checklist

## What to bring

* Original Emirates ID or passport.
* A list of your assets, with account or property details.
* Full names and passport details of the people who receive something.
* Names for the person who carries out the will and for any guardian.

Step by step

## How it works

1

Send us your list and family details on WhatsApp.

2

We draft the will in English and order the Arabic version. The notary works with an Arabic version beside the English one (Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013, Article 27).

3

You read the draft and change anything you want.

4

The notary public checks your original ID, reads the will with you, watches you sign and applies the seal.

Mistakes to avoid

## Mistakes that cause trouble

* **A name that differs from the passport.** Use it exactly.
* **A vague gift.** "My flat" is weak. Give the building, unit and area.
* **Leaving out a second choice.** Say what happens if the first person cannot receive.
* **Forgetting to update it.** A new child, a sale or a divorce can change what you want. Ask us about a new will.
* **Not telling anyone where it is.** Tell the person who will carry it out.
