# Will Format UAE: What a Will Must Name Before You Sign

A will format in the UAE is the order and wording of your will: who you are, what you own, who receives it and who carries it out. We have in-house, in person notary public services, online notary public services and home visit private notary services for the signing.

The will format UAE notaries expect matters less than the details inside it. A will that names the wrong person or leaves out an asset causes problems later.

Call or WhatsApp +971 52 947 5935 and tell us what your will must cover.

## Will Format UAE: The Parts a Will Must Name

We do not give a copy-and-sign will. A will copied from the internet often names the wrong things for your situation. These are the parts our drafting covers:

### You

Your full name as in your passport, your nationality and your Emirates ID or passport number.

### Your assets

Property, bank accounts, vehicles, shares and anything else you want to deal with, each described clearly enough to be found.

### Who receives what

Full names of each person, and what each one receives.

### Who carries it out

The person you name to carry out your wishes.

### Guardians

If you have children under 18, who you want to care for them.

### Language

A will in a foreign language needs an Arabic translation by a certified translator for the Dubai notary route, with both versions signed. Legal translation is from AED 50 per page.

Our page on [will registration in Dubai for non-Muslims](https://privatenotarydubai.com/will-notarization-dubai/) covers where a will is registered. Which court or notary office applies depends on where you live and where your assets are. If your matter sits with DIFC Courts, it has its own [notary service](https://www.difccourts.ae/difc-courts/services/notary-service).

## Will Format UAE Requirements for the Signing

Notarial acts in the UAE are regulated by [Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022](https://uaelegislation.gov.ae/en/legislations/1563). In Dubai, notaries public are regulated by Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013. At the signing, the notary public checks your original ID, reads the document, watches you sign and applies the seal.

Do not sign before the appointment. A will signed in advance has to be signed again in front of the notary public.

Checklist

## Will Format Documents Required

Bring these:

What to have ready

* Your original passport or Emirates ID.
* A list of your assets, with account or property details where you have them.
* Full names and ID details of the people you name.
* Any earlier will, if one exists.
* The name of the office that asked for the will, if there is one.

## Will Format Procedure: Three Ways to Sign

We offer three ways to sign:

* **In person.** You come to our in-house notary public.
* **Home or hospital visit.** We come to your home, hospital, office or hotel anywhere in Dubai. The visit is quoted on request.
* **Online.** Online notary public services run through the official UAE channels, the Ministry of Justice E-Notary System and Dubai Courts remote signing. We tell you if your will can be done that way.

The steps are the same in each case:

1. Send us the facts: your assets, your people and your wishes.
2. We draft the will and check it with you.
3. We translate it with a legal translator if it needs another language.
4. You sign in front of the notary public.
5. We tell you what to do with the signed original.

Mistakes to avoid

## Mistakes That Get a Will Refused or Challenged

* Assets described too loosely to identify.
* A foreign-language will with no Arabic translation.
* Signing before the appointment.
* Copying a will written for another country.

For the full list, see [the notary fees page](https://privatenotarydubai.com/dubai-notary-public-fees/).

## Will Format Processing Time

We do not give a fixed time, because it depends on how complete your facts are and on the notary office. Send everything in the first message. That is the quickest way to move. For more on our services, see [private notary services](https://privatenotarydubai.com/private-notary-services/).
