# Vehicle Power of Attorney in Dubai: A Special POA Template for Your Car

A special power of attorney for vehicle matters lets a relative or friend sell your car, renew its registration or collect it from a garage or an impound when you cannot. Copy the template below. The car stays yours until it is sold.

## Three ways to get it notarised

The notary public checks the owner's original ID, reads the power of attorney, watches the owner sign and applies the seal. We prepare the text and the Arabic version first.

Home or office visit

We come to your home or office. Price on request, plus the Dubai private notary government fee of AED 1,000 per trip outside the place of work.

## Situations this template is written for

Selling or transferring a car is more than management, so UAE civil law needs a special agency that names the act ([Federal Decree-Law No. 25 of 2025, Article 870](https://uaelegislation.gov.ae/en/legislations/4011)). SPECIAL POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR A VEHICLE

I, the undersigned, \[owner's full name as in passport\], \[nationality\], holder of passport number \[number\] and Emirates ID number \[number\], registered owner of the vehicle described below, appoint:

as my agent in respect of the following vehicle only:

My agent may, in my name:

1. Sell the vehicle to any buyer at a price my agent accepts \[or: at a price of not less than AED (amount)\], receive the price, and sign the sale and transfer papers.

2. Transfer the registration to the buyer before the competent traffic authority.

3. Renew the registration, carry out the technical inspection, and pay the fees.

4. Pay and settle traffic fines recorded on the vehicle.

5. Receive the vehicle, its keys and its papers from any garage, dealer or authority.

## Power of attorney for car registration only

Keep powers 3 and 4 and delete 1, 2 and 5. A narrow POA is easier to accept at a counter.

## The details that decide whether it is accepted

Vehicle power of attorney

1. **Chassis number** Copy it from the registration card. One wrong character can mean a new POA.
2. **Owner's name** Exactly as on the registration card.
3. **Bank finance** If the car is under a loan, the bank has a say in any sale. Ask the bank before you sign.
4. **The price clause** Any price, or only a minimum.
5. **An end date** The law sets no fixed term for a POA. The document's own term applies (Article 897).

## How signing works

The notary works with an Arabic version beside the English one ([Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013, Article 27](https://dlp.dubai.gov.ae/Legislation%20Reference/2013/Law%20No.%20(4%29%20of%202013%20Concerning%20Notaries%20Public%20in%20the%20Emirate%20of%20Dubai.html)). We order it.

Fill in your copy of the template and leave the signature blank.

Send us the registration card, your passport and Emirates ID, and the agent's.

We check the car details against the card, order the Arabic version and book your appointment at the place you choose.

The notary checks your original ID, makes sure the POA is what you intend, and seals it once you have signed (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 7).

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I give a power of attorney to sell a vehicle from abroad?

Yes. You sign before a notary in your country. It is then legalised there and attested by MOFAIC in the UAE.

### Does my agent need a UAE driving licence?

Not to sign papers for you. Driving the car is a separate matter of licence and insurance.

### We own two cars. Do we need a separate POA for each?

Not necessarily. List both with full plate and chassis details in one document.

### Can I cancel the vehicle POA after signing?

Yes. The principal can revoke an agency (Article 898). Tell your agent in writing and any office that holds a copy.
