Affidavits and declarations # Declaration Letter UAE: Templates, Including a Sworn Affidavit in Dubai A declaration letter UAE offices ask for is a short signed statement of a fact about you: your name, your income, that you are not working, or that you will do something. When the office wants more weight behind it, the same statement is made as a sworn affidavit before a notary. This page gives you four templates and explains which form each office usually needs. A declaration is a statement you sign to confirm something is true. An office abroad may ask for a statutory declaration. For a statutory declaration in the UAE, you sign the same kind of statement before a notary here. It becomes useful to an office when: * it is specific, with names, numbers and dates, * it is signed by the person the facts are about, * the signature is notarised, so the office knows who signed. A **sworn affidavit** goes one step further. The signer takes an oath before the notary that the content is true. Many embassies and some employers ask for "an affidavit" or "a sworn statement" rather than a declaration. In Dubai, a sworn affidavit is signed before a notary, and the federal fee is AED 300 (Cabinet Resolution No. 19 of 2024, item 12). Step by step ## How to write a declaration letter 1 **Start with who you are:** full name as in your passport, nationality, passport and Emirates ID numbers, address. 2 ### State one fact per numbered line Short sentences. No opinions. 3 ### Say why it is needed "for submission to \[office\]". 4 ### End with a truth statement "The above is true and correct." 5 **Leave the signature and date blank** until you are before the notary. 6 **For an affidavit,** add "state on oath" in the opening line. Sample wording ## Template 1: declaration of name (same person, different spellings) This template is for one name written two ways. If you have changed your name, for example after a marriage or a divorce, the [name change affidavit format](https://privatenotarydubai.com/name-change-affidavit-format/) is the right document. I am \[employed by (employer) as (job title) / self-employed as (activity)\]. 2. My monthly income is AED \[amount\], received \[as salary / from (source)\]. 3. I make this declaration for submission to \[office\]. The above is true and correct. I am not currently employed and have not been employed since \[date\]. 2. I am \[supported by (name and relationship) / living on my savings\]. 3. I make this declaration for submission to \[office\]. The above is true and correct. It includes a supporting statement from the tenant or owner. We confirm your final price before you pay. ## Sworn affidavits for embassies Some embassies and consulates in the UAE take sworn affidavits from their own nationals themselves. Indian nationals, for example, sometimes ask about a sworn affidavit at the Indian embassy in Dubai. If your embassy handles it, go there. If the office abroad accepts a UAE notarised affidavit, that may need MOFAIC and embassy attestation afterwards. A written statement the signer confirms under oath before a notary. It carries more weight than an ordinary declaration because the signer swears to its truth. ### Can I use a declaration letter example from another country? You can use it as a starting point, but match the names and numbers to your UAE documents, and check what the receiving office asked for. ### Is there an affidavit Dubai format that every office accepts? No single format is accepted everywhere. Offices look for the same things: full identity, clear facts, the purpose, and a notary's seal. Our templates follow that pattern. ### Does a declaration need to be in Arabic? For use with Dubai authorities, the notary may need an Arabic version. Many embassies accept English.
